Why I Write
I was recently interviewed by award-winning author Chandra Sparks Splond on her blog, chandrasparkssplond.com. Among other questions, she wanted to know what I want readers to learn from my life. The question got me thinking about my vision statement and mission statement, which are posted on the wall above my computer monitors. I don't think I've ever shared them with you, so here goes:
My Mission Statement: Why write?
I do it to encourage [my readers]. Then as their hearts are joined together in love, they will be wonderfully blessed with complete understanding. And they will truly know Christ. Not only is he the key to God’s mystery, but all wisdom and knowledge are hidden away in him.
(Based on Colossians 2:2-3, CEV)
My Vision Statement
By the grace of God and with His help, I will be a bestselling, multiple award-winning author, known in the Christian fiction world as a woman whose very writing bears the presence of God and brings glory to His name. Through my work, I will bring honour to God by helping His people to know Him and make Him known. “For [I am] His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that [I] should live in them.”
(Based on Ephesians 2:10, NAB)
I'm still not sure about my purpose in my life, but I know that one of the things I was born to do is bear the presence of God. It is my prayer that He will use me and my life for His glory, that He will continue to use me as a writer who uses fiction laced with humor, clean romance and godly wisdom to encourage my readers and lead them into a closer relationship with Him.
